Glossary

Many Arcweave terms are everyday words with a specific meaning in Arcweave. This page defines each one in a sentence and links to its full documentation. For how the main building blocks fit together, see Core concepts.

A

  • AI credits: The monthly allowance your workspace spends when you use AI tools. See Monthly AI credits.
  • Arcscript: Arcweave's simple scripting language, used to change and check variables in branches, element content, and connection labels. See Arcscript.
  • Arcscript segment: A single line of Arcscript inside an element's content or a connection's label. See Arcscript segments.
  • Asset: An image, audio, or video file you upload to a project. See Assets.
  • Attribute: A labeled piece of data stored in a board, component, or element, such as a character's age. See Attributes.

B

  • Board: A canvas where you draw part of your story as a flowchart. A project can have many boards. See Boards.
  • Board folder: A folder that groups boards in the project's Boards section. See Board folders.
  • Board variable: A variable stored as an attribute on a board and used in Arcscript as board_id.variable_id. See Board variables.
  • Branch: A board item that chooses which path the story takes, using if, elseif, and else conditions. See Branches.

C

  • Comment: A message thread that workspace members and guests leave on a board to discuss the project. Comments aren't part of the story. See Comments.
  • Component: A reusable story object, such as a character, location, or item. Components don't sit on boards; you attach them to elements or mention them in text. See Components.
  • Component variable: A variable stored as an attribute on a component and used in Arcscript as component_id.variable_id. See Component variables.
  • Connection: An arrow from an element or branch to the next item (an element, branch, or jumper), setting the order of the story. See Connections.
  • Cover: The image shown at the top of an element or component. Elements can also use a video. See Element covers.
  • Custom ID: The name you use to refer to a board, component, or attribute in Arcscript. See Custom ID.

D

  • Debugger: A Play Mode panel where project owners and editors track variables while playtesting. See Debugger.
  • Design Assistant: Arcweave's AI assistant. It answers questions about your project and makes changes you ask for. See Design Assistant.

E

  • Element: A box on a board that holds one moment of your story, such as a scene or a line of dialogue, in a title and content. See Elements.
  • Export: Downloading your project's data in another format, such as JSON, a spreadsheet, PDF, or game engine files. See Export.

F

  • Flowchart: Your story drawn on a board as boxes (elements) joined by arrows (connections). See Flowchart analysis.

G

  • Global variable: A variable that belongs to the whole project rather than to a board or component. See Global variables.
  • Guest: A person invited to specific projects without joining the workspace. See Workspace guests.

H

  • History: The record of your project's previous versions, which you can view and restore. See History.

J

  • Jumper: A shortcut on a board. When the story reaches a jumper, it continues at the jumper's target element, on the same board or another one. See Jumpers.

L

  • Localization: Translating your project into other languages with Arcweave's built-in tools. See Localization.

M

  • Member: A person who belongs to a workspace and can access its projects, with permissions set by their role. See Workspace members.
  • Mention: A link to a component or board inside rich text, created by typing @. See Mentions.

N

  • Note: A sticky note on a board for ideas, instructions, or reminders. Notes aren't part of the story. See Notes.

O

  • Option: A choice the player clicks in Play Mode. Options come from the current element's outgoing connections; a connection's label is the option's text. See Play Mode.

P

  • Play Mode: Arcweave's built-in player, where you play your project as a choice-based game. See Play Mode.
  • Project: One story or game, with its boards, components, assets, and variables. See Projects.

  • Visitor: Someone who views a public project or its Play Mode through a link, without needing an Arcweave account. See Project visitors.

W

  • Workspace: Your team's space in Arcweave. It holds projects and the people who work on them, and has its own plan (Basic, Pro, or Team). See Workspaces.
