Troubleshooting

Use this page to diagnose common issues in Arcweave's editor.

Board performance

Arcweave boards use a GPU-accelerated renderer to draw parts of the board, such as connections. If a board feels slow to pan, zoom, select, or edit, use the checks below.

Switch board renderer

Arcweave lets you choose between three board renderers in Project Settings:

  • WebGL
  • WebGPU
  • Canvas (Compatibility)

If one GPU renderer performs poorly on your current browser or hardware, the other one may work better. WebGL is the default.

After changing the renderer, refresh the page to apply it. The setting is saved in your current browser, so it applies to every project you open there.

ℹ️ If your browser cannot run the selected renderer, Arcweave automatically tries the other GPU renderer, then Canvas.

If neither GPU renderer is available, Arcweave shows a warning that it is using a slower compatibility renderer. Enable hardware acceleration in your browser's settings, then refresh the page for better performance.

Which renderer should I try?

  • WebGL: The most compatible option and a good default if you want predictable behavior across browsers and devices.
  • WebGPU: May offer better board performance on some systems, but results depend more on your browser, GPU, and drivers.
  • Canvas (Compatibility): Doesn't use the GPU, so it may be slower. Use it when neither GPU renderer works on your browser or device.

If one GPU renderer feels slow or unstable, switch to the other one and refresh the page.

Check Chrome extensions

Some Chrome extensions can interfere with Arcweave's board rendering and input performance.

If Arcweave feels slow in Chrome:

  • Temporarily disable extensions for Arcweave and refresh the page.
  • Or test the same project in an incognito window or a clean browser profile.

So far we have identified two extensions that negatively impact performance in Chrome:

If you need these extensions enabled in Chrome, try disabling them only for Arcweave.

Additional checks

  • Make sure your browser is up to date.
  • Close other tabs or apps that heavily use GPU acceleration.
  • If dragging or scrolling feels wrong rather than slow, review the Input device setting.
