# Project Settings

Source: https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/settings
Section: Project Tools
Description: Project settings for grid, spell checking, input device, board renderer, and AI, plus project properties like hash and word count

To access your project's **settings**, click the **cog icon** (**Project Settings**) on the left side of the top menu. The cog icon is available to users who can edit the project (owners and editors).

![Arcweave's project environment, with an orange arrow pointing at the cog icon, in the top menu.](https://docs.arcweave.com/assets/settings_cog.CmlNUThz.png)

The **Project Settings** menu provides the following two sections:

- [Configurable settings](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/settings#configurable-settings):
  - Show grid
  - Snap to grid
  - Spell checking
  - Input device
  - Board renderer
  - AI settings
- [Properties](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/settings#properties)

## Configurable settings

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings

Configure these settings to affect how you work inside the editor.

### Show grid

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > Show grid

Toggles a background grid of dots on the board to help visually align elements. The dots fade as you zoom out below 100% and disappear at 25% zoom.

### Snap to grid

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > Snap to grid

Toggles board item snapping to the nearest grid point, for precise placement and alignment.

> ✅ **Snap to grid** functions independently from **Show grid**: snapping can remain active even if the grid itself is hidden.

### Spell checking

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > Spell checking

Activates your browser's built-in spell checker within Arcweave, helping you identify and correct typos as you type.

> ℹ️ To use this feature, ensure spell checking is also enabled in your browser's settings.

### Input device

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > Input device

Select your input device:

- **Auto**: Automatically detects mouse-only and trackpad-only gestures, adjusting the functionality accordingly. The menu shows the currently detected device.
- **Mouse**: Optimizes for mouse input.
- **Trackpad**: Optimizes for trackpad gestures.

> ✅ If you need to scroll within a tall element, switch to **Trackpad** mode and scroll using your mouse wheel or trackpad gesture.

### Board renderer

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > Board renderer

Choose which renderer Arcweave uses for boards:

- **WebGL**: Best compatibility for most browsers and devices.
- **WebGPU**: Preferred on modern browsers with WebGPU support.
- **Canvas (Compatibility)**: May be slower; use it when GPU rendering is unavailable.

If board panning, zooming, selection, or connection editing feels slow on your current browser or device, try switching to the other GPU renderer. If the selected renderer can't run, Arcweave falls back to the other GPU renderer, then to Canvas. See [Board performance](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/troubleshooting#board-performance).

> ℹ️ Refresh the page after changing the board renderer, so the new setting can take effect.

> ℹ️ Arcweave stores this preference in your current browser.

> ℹ️ For Chrome-specific performance checks, see [Troubleshooting](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/troubleshooting#board-performance).

### AI settings

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Configurable settings > AI settings

Use **AI Settings...** to define the visual direction for all [AI-generated images](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/ai-features/image-generator) in the project. This option appears when the workspace's plan includes AI features and AI is enabled for the workspace.

The **AI Settings** panel includes two optional ways to guide generated images:

- **Image Generation Guidelines**: Enter up to 1,000 characters of instructions describing the desired style, tone, medium, or visual characteristics you want Arcweave to apply to generated images across the project.
- **Attached Style References**: Drag image assets from the **Assets** sidebar into this list to use them as visual references. Arcweave uses them to guide palette, mood, lighting, texture, and rendering style.

> ℹ️ Attached style references act as style guides by default. They are not reproduced literally unless your prompt explicitly asks for the details shown in them.

> ℹ️ If you add attached style references, you can mention one by name in your prompt to guide the result more precisely.

## Properties

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties

Select **Properties** to open the **Project properties** dialog. It gives access to the following key project information used for integration, sharing, and project management.

### Project hash

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Project hash

![Arcweave's project environment, with the Project properties panel open and an orange rectangle emphasizing the project hash.](https://docs.arcweave.com/assets/project-hash.BcnLdJ7_.png)

#### What is the project hash?

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Project hash > What is the project hash?

The project hash is the unique identifier of a project.

You need a project's hash in the following cases:

- When [integrating](https://docs.arcweave.com/integrations/overview) with another platform through Arcweave's REST API.
- When [embedding](https://docs.arcweave.com/project-tools/share) the project's Play Mode in a webpage.

#### Copy the project hash

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Project hash > Copy the project hash

To access and copy the project hash:

1. Click the **Settings icon** (the cog) on the left side of the top menu.
2. Select **Properties**.
3. Locate the **Project hash** and click the **clipboard icon**.

Your project's hash is now copied to your system's clipboard.

### Project item count

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Project item count

Shows the total number of each item type within your project:

- Boards
- Jumpers
- Notes
- Assets
- Elements
- Branches
- Components
- Comments

### Total words

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Total words

Calculates the total number of words across all boards, using element titles, element content, and connection labels. Arcscript blocks are not counted. In localized projects, this count uses the current language.

### Total characters

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Total characters

Calculates the total number of characters across all boards, using element titles, element content, and connection labels. Arcscript blocks are not counted. In localized projects, this count uses the current language.

### Project storage limit

Context: Arcweave docs > Project Tools > Project Settings > Properties > Project storage limit

Displays the total storage capacity available for your project and the current usage.
